滨海小镇里，一对老夫妻收养的姑娘朱丽叶（碧姬·巴铎 Brigitte Bardot 饰）因为容貌出众、作风不检颇受居民非议，但朱丽叶似乎全然不放心上，仍与年龄可做自己父亲的富商卡拉丁接触，卡拉丁爱慕朱丽叶，同时也对自己的行为加以限制。朱丽叶与塔迪尤三兄弟中的大哥安东尼交好，当她发现对方的真面目以后选择放弃。 监护人不再容忍朱丽叶的恣意作风，通知孤儿院将朱丽叶带回。为了把朱丽叶留在小镇，安东尼的弟弟米歇尔（Jean-Louis Trintignant 饰）向她求婚，这桩不被看好的婚姻却带给两人慵懒平静的幸福时光。不久安东尼重新回到小镇主持船厂，塔迪尤一家的气氛变得微妙。随着朱丽叶出海发生意外，这一对兄弟与卡拉丁被卷入到一场风波里去。。1990年前后，移民美国成为许多国人的梦想，艺术家尤甚。 北京音乐家王启明（姜文）与妻子郭燕（严晓频）来到神往很久的美国不久，美好梦想即遭遇打击，几番挣扎终没做成艺术家的王启明消沉一段时间，成为商人，并在短短几年积累了可观财富。但陡然回头，他发现失、得实难计算：智慧与美貌并存的阿春（王姬）虽然成了他的红颜知己，郭燕却也跑去了他生意上的最大竞争对手David（Robert Daly）的身边。其后他的女儿宁宁（马晓晴）来到美国，完全无法理解他与郭燕的选择，更是将阿春视作仇敌，渐渐地，她开始以他与郭燕亦无法接受的美国式放纵来将他们报复。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
